About

Amanda Rixey

Physical Therapist

I am Dr. Amanda Rixey, Physical Therapist, providing services in the Kansas City Metro. I recently moved from Seattle, WA where I founded Newfound Physical Therapy and became a leading provider specializing in Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Functional Neurological Disorders (FND), as well as chronic pain conditions.  Additionally, I served on the wellness team for the Pacific Northwest Ballet, providing onsite and backstage physical therapy coverage for the main company and professional division students.  I also had the privilege to work with the musician and dancer population, volunteering with Seattle Performing Arts Medicine pro-bono clinics and journal club collaborations.  Prior to moving to Seattle in 2020, I served on the physical therapy team for the Kansas City Ballet, and provided services for numerous touring shows in Kansas City.  During my time in Denver, I completed my pilates apprenticeship with Colorado Athletic Club, teaching both private and group fitness equipment and mat classes.

After sustaining numerous personal injuries from a young age, experience as a pre-professional ballet dancer, and my own recovery journey with chronic pain, I have developed an affinity for working with complex pain conditions across all age ranges that may not respond to the traditional model of physical therapy.  I fully believe in practicing what I preach!  My current areas of clinical interest and collaboration lie in understanding and transforming the role of physical therapy in conditions including FND and EDS, dance medicine, as well as the emerging role of physical therapy in mental health.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking with friends, community, Pilates practice and weight lifting, cooking and chilling with my husband and our Newfoundland dog, Watson.
